Embracing Autmn: A season of transition and deliciousness
“I’m so glad I live in a world where there are Octobers.” - L.M. Montgomery
The summer months came and went in a blink of an eye! One day I was excited to be starting our first local Farmers’ Market and today I sit here reflecting on the journey. With only one week left in our market season, it is important to acknowledge some progress, lessons learned and prepare for what is to come. That is the case for life in general, a constant series of storms to be weathered yet full of possibilities and continuous change.
In just a few short months I had an opportunity to meet our neighbors and start growing our community. Some visited loyally and bid farewell with the familiar, “See you next week”. There was some honest feedback, most of which was kind and encouraging, and all of which I am thankful for. While the dream of a private-label tea company remains, I also adopted the motto of “Give the people what they want!” That led to more choices for our younger customers, those who can’t have caffeine or sweetened drinks, and our coffee lovers. As a social worker, I was trained to listen, comprehend, and understand that our needs can motivate us to change. Customers loved refreshing iced tea, lemonade, and boba. Ideas for gift boxes and emphasis on self-care journals had to be reconsidered.
Embracing change requires a level of acceptance and an ability to remain open-minded. We all experience change in our lives, some of it for the best and some of it is forced on us and we must learn to adapt. Understand that change is essential for growth. We all go through changes physically, mentally, and emotionally. We experience change in all areas of our lives. You can call it a shift, a need to adapt, or learning to balance priorities and new roles. It’s unavoidable, change is necessary for progress and growth.
If you are struggling to let go or fear what is to come, I have a few suggestions. Seek support from a trusted friend or professional. Make an effort to maintain a positive outlook, you could start each day expecting the best or even journaling about what you are grateful for each day. Finally, look at your journey as an ongoing chance for growth. We can’t avoid change, but we can learn to live our lives to the fullest and make the best of it.
As we prepare for this next phase, I look forward to the possibilities of new partnerships, greater focus, and streamlining of the brand. I’ve introduced refreshing fresh pressed juices and aguas frescas, which take me back to childhood. How spoiled and loved I feel when offered freshly squeezed orange juice! The familiar taste of ice-cold watermelon juice reminds me of markets in Los Angeles. I’m bringing all of this as authentically and with as much love and care as possible! Look for us as we make every effort to remain present until the next summer Farmers’ Market and reach out to us with any requests.
